After transferring to NCC from a community college, Greg Ishmael quickly established himself as one of the greatest basketball players in Crusader history. By the time his career was complete, Ishmael was a three-time All-Pacific Northwest Collegiate Conference selection, a two-time team MVP and an All-West Coast Region selection.

The Crusaders won at least 19 games in all three of his seasons, winning back-to-back-to-back PNCC championships. As a sophomore the team went 19-12 and was the West Coast Region runners-up. He was named the team MVP that season.

Ishmael once again earned team MVP honors as a junior and was an All-West Coast Region selection after guiding that team to a 20-8 record and the regional championship.

His senior season will be remembered as one of the best in NCC history as he helped guide the team to their first ever national tournament appearance as they competed in the first round of the National Little College Athletic Association championships. The team is one of only two in school history to post 25 wins and the only team to ever go 10-0 in league competition.

Ishmael was also a strong spiritual leader for the team and a man of character. He was twice named the team’s Most Inspirational player. Ishmael graduated in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in educational ministry.
