Since 1959, the Bushnell University athletic department has striven for the highest levels of success on the field of play. This legacy of success has included nine team national championships, two individual national championship and 16 conference championship teams.

In 2007, Northwest Christian University joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and over the next 13 years has developed into a regular power player with five CCC Championships (three in women's cross country, one in men's basketball, and one in women's basketball) and a 2015 NAIA National Championship in women's cross country. In addition, the NAIA era has seen a pair of individual national championships in track & field with Bailey Dell winning the Javelin title in 2018 and Anika Rasubala taking home the 3000m Steeplechase championship in 2019.
