2012 Induction Press Release
After an 11-win season the year before, the 1988-89 team went 20-10 and won the sixth National Bible College Athletic Association National Championship in seven years for NCC. Head Coach Jeff Rodenburg and assistant coaches John Gilles and Don Gaskill led a talented team including James Bennett, Steve Case, Mike Delaplain, Craig Doerksen, Gregg Gittins, Jeff Knox, Randy Lilya, John O’Haver, George Rogers, Mat Sand, Tracy Sims, and Carl Swan.
The team went 2-0 at the NBCAA Championship tournament. Claiming the No. 1 overall seed, the Crusaders earned a bye into the semifinals where they defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God College 87-80. In the championship game, NCC cruised to a 97-76 victory over North Central Bible College. Sand was named tournament MVP and he was joined on the all-tournament team by both Knox and Swan.
