A local product who played at North Eugene High, Don Hodney was a four-year member of the Crusader basketball team from 1973-1977. He was a four-time All-Conference selection and earned team MVP honors as a senior.
Â
As a freshman, the Crusaders went 15-8 including a 6-4 mark in the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Conference. For the next three years, however, NCC would win at least 19 games winning the PNCC all three times.
Â
As a sophomore the team went 19-12 and was the West Coast Region runners-up. His character and spiritual leadership garnered him the Most Inspirational award from the team that season. Â
Â
As a junior Hodney helped lead the team to a 20-8 record and the West Coast Region Championship, the school’s first in five seasons.
Â
His senior season will be remembered as one of the best in NCC history. Hodney earned team MVP honors as he guided the team to their first ever national tournament appearance, competing in the first round of the National Little College Athletic Association championships. The team is one of only two in school history to post 25 wins and the only team to ever go 10-0 in league competition.
Â
Hodney graduated from NCC in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in pastoral ministry.
