Top-Ten Stories of 2022-2023: #4

On April 26, Senior Caden Stubbs won the 2023 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship individual title by five strokes to earn himself an automatic qualification to the NAIA Men's Golf Championship.

Stubbs finished 3-under on the tournament, hosted at the Emerald Valley Golf Course. He became the fifth Beacon to win CCC Medalist honors, giving Bushnell the most of any school in the history of Cascade Conference Golf. He joined Andrew Webb (2022), two-time champion Josh Goins (2016, 2017) and Tyler Falk (2014).

The fifth-year senior was tied for first entering the final day but pulled away with a steady third round to finish with a final score of 72-68-70—210. His three-round score of 210 is tied for the second lowest in school history and the best since 2013.

"It was a grind," said Stubbs. "Jorgen and Aidan are such competitors and they kept it interesting all day. I just had to make a couple more putts than they did. I've wanted this for a long time, and I'm upset we couldn't do it as a team, but we were really close. I'm excited to represent Bushnell at nationals." Click here for the full interview.

Bushnell placed second as a team, finishing just one stroke behind 10th-ranked University of British Columbia and four strokes ahead of No. 20 Lewis-Clark State College. The Thunderbirds went on to win the 2023 NAIA Men's Golf Championship.

Stubbs finished the season with a 73.6 stroke average, All-CCC recognition and three CCC Men's Golfer of the Week honors.
