EUGENE, Ore. – At the 2023 Honors Convocation, Bushnell's Director of Athletic Training, Guillermo Torres-Sanchez, was honored as the Staff Member of the Year, presented by the Associated Students of Bushnell University (ASBU).
Â
A highly respected and well-regarded member of the Bushnell community for many years, Torres-Sanchez returned to the Beacon staff this season, and led athletic training services for a record-breaking number of student-athletes.
Â
With over 240 athletes under his care, Torres-Sanchez is always kind, courteous, and helpful, whether it be in critical moments of in-game assessment and care, or on-going rehabilitations.
Â
Gabe Fatooh, the ASBU President for 2022-2023 and a member of the Cross Country and Track teams, said, "With full confidence, I can say that Gui has demonstrated exemplary service to the students of Bushnell University. He is a selfless leader. Even in the midst of adversity, he gives every one of his student-athletes the attention that they need to succeed. Whether they are suffering from a minor injury, major injury, or seeking treatment, he is there to help. To a student-athlete dealing with any kind of injury preventing them from doing what they love, this kind of selflessness means more than words can portray."
Â
Torres-Sanchez was the Head Athletic Trainer at Bushnell from 2018 to 2021, and returned after a one-year stint on the staff at the University of Oregon. He is also an alumnus of Bushnell, having completed his undergraduate degree in 2015.
Â
Bushnell Athletic Director Corey Anderson said, "It has been truly a blessing to have Gui return to Bushnell this past year to serve our student-athletes. The connection that he has with our student-athlete population is essential in the success of Bushnell Athletics. This award makes me so happy for Guillermo and even happier for our student-athletes because they share with all of us the value they feel Gui brings to them as an athletic trainer and confidant."
