EUGENE, Ore. – Junior
Stevie Schlabach continued what has been an incredible career with the Beacons during the 2022-2023 season as he broke records, and moved up the list of all-time greats in Beacon men's basketball history. Â
Â
On December 31st, Schlabach became Bushnell's NAIA-Era scoring leader, scoring 22 points in a road victory against Northwest University to pass Austin Kuemper with his 1,309th point. Since joining the NAIA in 2006, eight players have broken the 1000-point plateau, Schlabach and Kuemper are the only two, however, to score more than 1100.
Â
Schlabach wasn't anywhere near done, however. One month later, on January 27, the Beacons were once again facing Northwest University when Schlabach would become Bushnell's all-time leader for field goals made. He secured the record-breaking field goal during a big second half run with the 536th basket of his career, surpassing Hall of Famer Mitch Naylor for the record.Â
Â
One night later, in a massive 111-61 blowout of Evergreen, it was another milestone game for Schlabach. He went 10-for-11 from the field, scored 21 points, and moved past Naylor into third-place on Bushnell's career scoring list. Â
Â
The mid-range shooting specialist has averaged 16.4 points per game during his career and went on to finish out the year with 1,556 points, putting him within striking distance of a 2000-point career when his senior season commences this fall.
Â
Bushnell's all-time leading scorer is Hall of Famer Mat Sand with 2,296 points. Jon Willis, also a member of the Bushnell Athletics Hall of Fame, sits in second with 2,064.
