2026 Special Awards Salute: Nick Askew - 25-Year Award

One of the longest-tenured sports information professionals in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Nick Askew of Bushnell University will receive his CSC 25-Year Award this June at the #CSCUnite26 convention in Las Vegas.

25-Year Award
Presented to College Sports Communicators members who have completed 25 years in the athletics communications profession. Vetted and voted on by the Special Awards Committee.

Nick Askew — Bushnell University Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

"It has been an honor to be a part of College Sports Communicators since I first became a Sports Information Director right out of college in 2000. The landscape of our business has changed so much over the past 25 years and CSC has been an incredible resource to help grow, learn, and expand my toolbox. I am so grateful for the friendships I have developed during my career with colleagues at all levels of Athletic Communications, through the CSC network." Nick Askew, 2026 CSC 25-Year Award recipient

Nick Askew has been at the helm of the athletic communications office at Bushnell University since 2006 and has been in the profession since 2000. One of the longest-tenured sports information professionals in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Askew has held multiple leadership positions and currently serves as a member of the NAIA-SIDA statistics committee. On campus, he helps lead the hall of fame committee and was part of the Bushnell University name change transition/implementation team in 2020.

Corey Anderson, Bushnell University Athletic Director: "Nick has been a foundational piece of our success with Bushnell Athletics over his tenure. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to any and all athletic events that we are hosting and sometimes when we are on the road. I hear from our student-athletes all the time, about the depth and accuracy of his game recaps, painting the picture of what transpired on the court, course, field and track after the competition. Nick is also second to none when it comes to his stat keeping ability at games. While a lot of people take it for granted, and just assume the stats just magically appear after games, Nick is simply the best at it. While Nick is the one normally cheering on our student-athletes and teams, we now get to thank Nick and celebrate him with this honor."

Under his leadership, BushnellBeacons.com has been named one of the top 10 websites in the NAIA three times, most recently in 2020. He has garnered more than 45 awards in NAIA-SIDA publications and media contests, including four first-place awards for multi-sport poster, special events webpage, gameday graphic, and breaking news graphic. In 2017, Askew was named Cascade Collegiate Conference sports information director of the year for the first time in his career.

Prior to coming to Bushnell, he worked as SID at Concordia University Irvine for more than five years. While at Concordia, Askew won multiple honors for media guide publications from NAIA-SIDA. He also had the Concordia website ranked in the top 10 of the NAIA on multiple occasions.

Mike Safford, Oregon Institute of Technology Sports Information Director: "Nick is part of a true brotherhood of SID's in the Northwest that have watched the industry change over the last quarter century. His work at Northwest Christian/Bushnell has been exemplary, including serving as the host of the Cascade Conference Soccer Championships for nearly a decade, while elevating Beacon Athletics throughout. He is meticulous at his craft, an outstanding writer and storyteller, but above all, an amazing friend and a father. Congratulations Brother!!!"

Alisha Alexander, Lewis-Clark State College Assistant Athletic Director - Sports Information, 2025 CSC Rising Star Award & 2022 CSC 30 Under 30: "Nick is a great asset to those that want to become better at their trade. He strives to be the best at his job and do the best for his institution and student-athletes. I am very grateful for his constant support and mentorship that has been instrumental for me in my career."

Clayton Messerle, Corban University Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Communications, 2023 CSC 30 Under 30: "Nick's tireless commitment to his craft is what many dream of one day attaining for themselves, as his constant dedication to bettering the Beacon brand transcends across the Pacific Northwest and greater national scene. His 25 years representing and promoting Bushnell University and their student-athletes is truly a remarkable achievement, and the Cascade Collegiate Conference/NAIA are both better organizations with Nick as one of the top veteran sports communicators."
