Beacons Score First But Fall to Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash.  – Junior Chris Longi scored just eight minutes into the game for the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team, but it would be the last goal for the Beacons in a 4-1 loss to Northwest University on Wednesday afternoon in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Head Coach Brett Bentley said, “We opened up well today but it was a pretty up-and-down game. We made some mental mistakes but I credit Northwest. They came back strong after the early goal and really dominated play late in the game.”

At the 7:36 mark, Andrew Poe (pictured) placed a perfect pass to Longi, who headed home his first goal of the season. It would take the Eagles 23 minutes to find the back of the net for themselves as they scored in the 31st minute. Drew Jensen took a combo pass from Joel Pelton and Doug Whitney and scored from seven yards out.

James Kerr got the game winner for the Eagles at the 42:47 mark when he took a pass from Edgar Esquivel and put the ball into an open net from 15 yards.

Pelton scored in the 61st minute from eleven yards out after receiving Whitney's long pass up the middle. Senior Luke Fischer finished off the Eagles scoring at the 75:58 mark as he took a through ball from Taylor Young, splitting two defenders and scoring from 11 yards out on the left side.

Northwest (9-2-3, 8-1-1 CCC) dominated the shot chart with a 37-6 margin. Pelton led NU with 9 shots, 4 on goal. The victory, combined with a tie for Concordia University on Wednesday pushes the Eagles into a first-place tie in the CCC.

Northwest Christian's (2-11-1, 0-9-1 CCC) Nick Kratzke had 9 saves in goal for the Beacons before subbing out in the 82nd minute.

The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday when they return home to face Corban University at 6:00 pm.
