Beacons Earn Impressive Win over Warner Pacific

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's soccer team pulled off a feat only accomplished three times in school history on Friday afternoon, defeating Warner Pacific University 1-0.

The Knights (2-4-2, 0-3-1 CCC) were an NAIA tournament qualifier last season, advancing all the way to the national quarterfinals, and were riding a nine-match winning streak against the Beacons. Bushnell, however, continued to show why they are among the top-tier of the Cascade Conference, riding their patented stifling defense to pick up their first win over WPU since 2017 and just their third ever, along with their first shutout in the series.

Tomas Jujihara provide the Beacons will all the offense they would need in the 31st minute. Teva Mataoa sent a pass from the middle of the box over to Jujihara on the right side. The junior transfer brought the ball back towards the middle, before firing home the game-winner into the corner of the net.

"The boys had an amazing tactical performance tonight," said Juihara, "and everyone showed work ethic and discipline. Those strong individual efforts led to a team result."

The Beacons battled bravely against 11 shot attempts and nine WPU corner kicks as keeper Aaron Lowry turned away four shots-on-goal to earn four saves and deliver his third individual clean sheet of the season. For the Beacons (6-0-4) it was their fifth shutout as a team.

Head Coach Joao Ehlers said, "Great performance and result today. We played a very strong collective game and made it difficult for them to have opportunities to score. Our defensive organization has been fantastic so far this season."

UP NEXT: The Beacons continue their road trip on Sunday, traveling to take on Walla Walla University at 1:00 pm.
