On February 28, sophomore
Kaleo Wellman made history for Bushnell Athletics, becoming the Beacons first-ever NAIA Indoor Track & Field All-American.
Wellman was the national runner-up in the Long Jump at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, taking place in Gainsville, Florida at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center.
The sophomore came into the event seeded 16th, but broke his own school record not once, not twice, but three times on his way to his second-place finish. His final mark was 7.38 meters (24' 2.5") and he was moments away from claiming a shocking national title before Arizona Christian's Mikhail Brown landed a 7.51 meter jump on his final attempt to win.
Bushnell scored points at the Indoor championship for the first-time, finishing in 37th-place.
Wellman's banner season included new Bushnell records both Indoor and Outdoor (7.41m) as he qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship as well. He was named the NAIA National Field Athlete of the Week on March 12 after hitting the NAIA "B" standard at the Rich Allen Classic, posting what was the top mark in the NAIA at the time.
At the CCC Championship, Wellman earned All-Cascade Conference honors with a second-place finish, scoring Bushnell's best-ever jump at the event.
