Beacons Drop Five-Setter to No. 19 Yotes

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – In their first-ever battle between NAIA Top-25 teams, the No. 23 Bushnell University volleyball team was defeated in five sets by No. 19 College of Idaho in Cascade Collegiate Conference action, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 15-7.

Bushnell (14-9, 8-5 CCC) looked good early, taking the opening set before dropping the next two. They rallied to take the fourth, but ran out of steam in the final set with the Yotes going ahead 11-4 before taking the win.

The Beacons hit just .115 in the contest, and were out-matched in nearly every metric as the Yotes held an 83-66 margin in points scored, 13-11 edge in blocks, 71-60 advantage in digs and 11-9 lead in service aces.

Hailey Heider finished the night with a double-double, producing team-highs with 15 kills and 14 digs, adding three blocks. Leah Agost hit .280 with 11 kills and Amyah Semau gave her team a double-double with ten kills, 13 digs and four blocks.

Emma Fa'alogo led Bushnell with 22 assists, Kailey Shirley added 14 digs and Soleil Sands led the team with five blocks.

The Yotes (13-7, 7-6) were led by Cierra Bohrn with 15 kills while Mia Hutchinson posted 14 kills and 11 digs, hitting a team-best .231. Madeline Lee led all players with 30 assists while Capri Salmon added 19 assists and 12 digs. Liza Montalbo led all players with four aces and Abigail Flerchinger scored a match-high seven blocks including two solo efforts.

"College of Idaho did a good job coming in and serving and passing better than we did," said Bushnell head coach Jason Corwin. "They stayed in system longer than we did and when we did get a rhythm going, they did a good job of blocking defense. They played better than we did in all phases and got us in the end."

UP NEXT: The Beacons return to action in less than 24 hours as they take on the No. 1 ranked team in the country in Eastern Oregon University (20-1, 12-1) at 4:00 pm on Saturday. The Mounties will come in with a chip on their shoulders after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of No. 8-ranked Corban on Friday.
