Another Record Falls as Beacons Sweep Owls

Box Score EUGENE, Ore.  – When the Beacons paid a visit to Klamath Falls last month, senior Payton Jones tied two single-game blocking records against Oregon Tech. Tonight, she haunted the Owls once again, breaking the all-time record for Block Assists as the Bushnell volleyball team rolled to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The Beacons (19-9, 11-6 CCC) hit .229 as they won their third straight match, using a strong rotation of servers to keep OIT off balance throughout the night. The home team finished with seven service aces.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "We had a solid performance in all phases tonight. We were able to put a lot of serving pressure on them and we were able to keep our transition offense in system for most of the night. Congratulations to Payton for breaking the block assist record. She has been so consistent for us every year. We appreciate her skill but also her presence, confidence, and mentorship!"

Jones (pictured) couldn't be stopped on offense or defense as she hit .667 with eight kills and added six block assists. Early in the third set she collected her fourth, giving her the new career record which now stands at 250. Her sights are now set on the overall career blocking record of 308, which she is just 16 blocks away from passing.

The Bushnell offense was well-rounded on Friday night, led by the setting of Makenna Northern who collected 34 assists, and bumped her Bushnell record to 3976 in her career. Halle Neumann was the biggest benefactor, hitting .391 with a match-high 13 kills while Jessica Northcutt and Shay Coons posted nine kills each. Neumann added four blocks, as did Matty Ladd.

Oregon Tech (12-11, 9-8) hit .054 in the match and were led by eight kills from Nicole Reyes. Courtney Isom led the team with 13 assists while Reyes also posted an Owl-leading eight digs.

The Beacons, who remain tied with Evergreen for third-place in the CCC, will be back on their home floor on Saturday night when they will play host to Southern Oregon at 7:00 pm.
