Fortnite Takes Fifth Place in NACE Championship

Competing in Fortnite for the first time, Bushnell Esports blew all expectations out of the water in 2021, finishing fifth in the nation.

In the NACE Fortnite Spring Cup, teams earned points throughout the season for how well each school's duo's competed in 50-team Battle Royale events. Points were earned for top-12 finishes, along with garnering one point for every player eliminated during the competitions.

The Bushnell team, led by Christian "Pezkyyyy" Velazquez, started off with a bang, scoring in each of their first two matches on February 8, before jumping to a sixth-place finish in their fourth match a week later.

On February 22, the team took second and knew they had a real shot at climbing into national recognition.

Another runner-up score came on March 8 and then on March 15 the team claimed their first ever Battle Royale victory. The final regular season match before the championship also gave the team a victory and the Beacons had scored placement points in ten of their 16 contests.

The Beacons then sealed their top-five finish in the NACE Championships on April 24 as they took fourth-place in both games.

Bushnell ended the season with 250 points, scoring 96 placement points and 154 eliminations.
