SALEM, Ore. - The Bushnell men's and women's golf teams got the spring half of their season off to a strong start on Saturday, sweeping titles at the Bushnell-Corban Dual, hosted by the Warriors at Creekside Golf Course.
The Beacon women shot a combined 344 to win the event by 16 strokes over Corban. Sophomore
Kylee Smith (pictured) won the tournament by five strokes, shooting a career-best 78 to lead the Beacons. Her sister,
Hailey Smith took third place with an 84.
Morgan Schlesinger and
Jaylee Hix tied fourth-place, shooting matching 91's while
Jada Richwine took ninth with a 96.
On the men's side, there were A and B teams fielded by both squads with Bushnell claiming first place and third-place. The Beacon "A" team, which defeated Corban's top team by seven shots (295-302) was led by
Matt Forsyth (pictured), shooting a 72.
Forsyth said, "I thought our team competed really well today, beating Corban on their home turf, especially after their basketball team knocked us out of the playoffs yesterday. As far as my round, I thought i did a good job battling when things didn't go my way down the stretch, and I am proud that I stuck to my game and put together a good score for my team."
Three different Beacons,
Peyton Wiedenmann,
Jacob Holmes, and Conner Cameron, were part of a tie for second-place, each shooting a 74 while
Trison Hedges (75) and
Isaac Wells (75) tied for sixth.
Also golfing for the Beacons were
Cody Adams (79),
Shawn Petty (80),
Talon Larson (80), Trenton Parks (84),
Tyler Mikel (86), and
Will Plenkovich (88).
UP NEXT: The Bushnell men will host the always popular Bandon Match Play tournament at Bandon Crossings, beginning on Sunday, March 8. The women's squad will return to Creekside in two weeks, competing in the Willamette University Invitational.
