RESULTS
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Bushnell men's and women's track & field teams returned to The Podium this weekend, and the results were incredible as the Beacons brought home nine new or tied school records at the Whitworth Invitational.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD:Â
Sophomore
Cyan Kelso-Reynolds (pictured) is the proud owner of two of the headline-making school records. On Friday, she broke a seven-year old Beacon record in the long jump. The best indoor jump of her career came on her fifth attempt as she post a 5.33m jump (17-06.00) to climb into second place. The previous record of 5.27m had been held by Abigail Spencer since 2019. On Saturday she tied the Bushnell record in the 60m, taking 16th with a 7.94 to match another record which had stood since 2019.Â
Kelso-Reynolds' long jump wasn't the only school record for the Beacon women on Friday, however. Joining her was junior
Eden Witten, who cemented her name as the first-ever women's pole vaulter during the indoor season. Her mark of 2.37m (7-09.25) was good for 14th-place.
On Saturday, three more records were broken, all by Bushnell freshmen. In the Shot Put,
Janaiya Miller posted an 11.20m (36-09.00) to break the mark set by teammate
Leah Schiewe last season. In the Triple Jump,
Viktoriia Gabrio claimed a new mark with a leap of 10.40m (34-01.50), breaking a seven-year old record previously held by Savannah Proske (10.36m).Â
Finally,
Aliyah Malone tied the Bushnell high jump record at 1.56m (5-01.25), equaling the mark set by Proske in 2019.Â
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD:Â
Three records were broken on the men's side, highlighted by
Blake Thornton in the 400m as he took 10th-place in the 44-man field with a new standard time of 50.23. He passed the previous record of 50.66 set by Shawn Johnson in 2019.Â
One week after breaking the pole vault record,
Brett Olmstead did it again on Saturday, clearing the bar at 4.65 meters (15-03.00). He finished second in the event and was just shy of the NAIA "B" qualification standard.Â
Another record that stood alone for just seven days was the shot put record held by
Maxwell Al-Rubaie. On Saturday, his mark was matched by
Brodie Riscili equaling the standard at 12.38m (40-07.50).Â
It may not have been a record-breaking leap, but junior
Kaleo Wellman had one of the more impressive performances on the weekend with another "A" standard length leap in the long jump. He posted the third-longest indoor mark in school history at 7.27m (23-10.25), enough to win the event by over 12 inches and defeating a 28-man field.
