REDDING, Calif. – Firing their best round of the season, the Bushnell men's golf team passed up Oregon Tech on Tuesday to claim third place at the Simpson University Invitational at Riverview Golf Club.
 
Head Coach Larry Watts said, "The Redding area was beautiful with bright sunshine and snow capped mountains. The men's team learned a lot this tournament. We came in with defined strategies that the players stuck to, that helped them swing with greater confidence."
 
Bushnell shot a 297-294—591 over the course of two days, finishing just five shots behind Southwestern Oregon Community College and four behind CCC foe Southern Oregon University.
 
Oregon Tech was six shots behind the good guys in fourth, followed by Corban in fifth.
 
Ben Lovrod's even par on day two helped to propel the Beacons as he tied for fifth-place with a two-round score of three-over 147. "This tournament was a great experience for the team," said Lovrod. "It was nice to play in some sunny and calm conditions and we stuck to our game plan, which was great to see pay off over the course of 36 holes. Hopefully we can take what we learned this week as a springboard heading into the final few weeks of the season."
 
Trison Hedges (pictured), Bushnell's clubhouse leader from Monday, finished in seventh (72-76—148) while Jacob Holmes (75-74—149) and Peyton Widenmann (77-72—149) tied for 12^th.
 
Rounding out the Beacon contingent were Talon Larson in 25^th (75-78—153) and Cody Adams in 44^th (81-82—163).  
 
"I am really proud of our freshman," added Watts. "Trison, Peyton and Jacob showed some great composure and everyone was a contributor to this team performance."
 
The Beacons will return to action in two weeks, heading to Stone Ridge Golf Course in Eagle Point for the final regular season Cascade Conference tournament.
