Smith, Lane Compete at NAIA Marathon Classic

RESULTS

DALLAS, Texas - Sophomore Cadence Smith and junior Sidney Lane competed in the NAIA Marathon Classic on Sunday morning, taking place at the BMW Dallas Marathon.

Smith made the most of the event, breaking a 17-year old Bushnell University women's marathon record as she came across the finish line in 3 hours, 32 minutes, and 13 seconds. She took 34th-place in the NAIA Marathon Classic and 91st overall and took 19 minutes off of the previous record, which was set by Katie Gilbert in May 2008 at the Eugene Marathon.

Lane also broke the previous school record as she came in 42nd place in the NAIA and 100th overall in a time of 3:51.21.

"Great job for both Cadence and Sidney today," said Head Coach Kyle Will, once of the pioneering coaching on the leadership team for the NAIA Marathon Classic. "It was a really cold day, with temps in the low 30s, and a pretty strong wind for about half the race, but they did great for their first marathon, especially in those conditions. It was a good experience and a great day for the NAIA Marathon here in Dallas."
