Top-Ten Stories of 2023-2024: #10

EUGENE, Ore.  – Bushnell became the new home for a pair of coaches during the 2023-2024 year as Kyle Will took control of the cross country and track programs and Jeremy Stout joined the staff to lead the esports teams.

Hired during the summer of 2023, Will hit the ground running in the fall, bringing his strong national leadership to the Beacons. It was a homecoming of sorts for the veteran coach, who spent nearly 20 years in Central Oregon. For the previous three seasons he had served as the Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach at Ottawa University, an NAIA school from the Golden State Athletic Conference located in Surprise, Arizona.

During his time with the Spirit, Will expanded a roster from just 19 athletes to over 55 in just two seasons and signed over 100 athletes to Letters of Intent during his four-year stint, despite dealing with the uncertainties of the pandemic. Over the course of his career he has coached numerous All-GSAC competitors along with multiple conference champions and national qualifiers.

Will is a respected member of the NAIA coaching community, serving on multiple national committees while also working as a national rater for women's cross country this year.

On the Esports front, the Beacons found themselves in need of new leadership and Jeremy Stout stepped up to the plate as the new Director for the program. He joined Bushnell after three years with the Wylie Independent School District as an esports coach and Career and Technical Education (CTE) educator. His coaching accomplishments include taking a League of Legends team to the playoffs every season, including an undefeated, 20-0, regular season and a third-ranked team in the state of Texas. He won a state championship in both League and Mario Kart during his final season.

He also has experience at the collegiate level, leading the Dallas College Eastfield esports program. His coaching methodology emphasizes personalized training plans, regular feedback sessions, and mentorship opportunities, allowing players to develop their skills in a supportive atmosphere.

With Will and Stout on board, the future is bright for the cross country, track & field, and esports programs at Bushnell.
