REDDING, Calif. –
Hayden Lazeo shot a season-best 69 in the second round of the Simpson Spring Invitational to finish seventh on the leaderboard for the Bushnell University men's golf team.
Bushnell recorded a 304-299—603 as a team, moving up two spots on the leaderboard for sixth place. Assistant Coach
Eric Moskalik said, "The team experienced an exciting, sun-filled weekend in Redding. We look forward to building on our tournament experiences, watching the freshmen grow and seeing our seniors close out the year."
Lazeo led the way with a 75-69—144 (E), shooting up the leaderboard after tying his career-best in the second round. The sophomore moved up 17 spots, tying the tournament leaders for the best second round.
He said, "We battled at Riverview over the last two days. Coming into the second day, we wanted to stay focused and play as a team and we did just that. I came into the second day feeling good and confident in myself. Throughout the round, I felt calm and was able to stay focused all round to shoot a 69."
Talon Larson finished in a tie for 19
th after recording a 74-75—149, his best two-round tournament of the season.
Benjamin Lovrod (77-76—153) tied for 31
st,
Connor Cameron (82-79—161) tied for 54
th and
Jackson Findlay (78-86—164) tied for 57
th.
The Cascade Collegiate Conference took the top-two spots on the leaderboard with Southern Oregon in first and Oregon Tech in second. The final team scores were: (1) Southern Oregon 579, (2) Oregon Tech 584, (3) Providence Christian 592, (4) Simpson 595, (5) Jessup 602, (6) Bushnell 603, (7) College of Idaho 607, (8) Grays Harbor 609, (9) Southwestern Oregon CC 610, (10) CSU Maritime 621.
Matt Forsyth (70-70—140) of SOU was the top CCC finisher, tying for second. Lazeo finished fourth among conference competitors.
Up next, Bushnell competes in the third regular season conference tournament, the Lewis-Clark State Invitational on April 15-16.
