Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore.  –  Bushnell Esports continued action in the ECAC, resulting in the end of the fall seasons for Valorant and Rocket League, while Fortnite advanced to the championship tournament.

VALORANT
Playoffs – Round 1: Purdue 2, Bushnell 0 (13-9, 13-6)

Bushnell Valorant returned after a year off, featuring four new members to the starting lineup. Cole Vamos, Brett Olmstead/Keira Wilkins, Nathan Farris, Zack Claunch, and Connor DeVeny played on Tuesday of each week, competing in seven best-of-three matchups.

The Valorant season, consisting of 232 teams, was broken into nine divisions based on rank. The Beacons were placed in Division A, the second-highest level of competition. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams from each conference advanced to the postseason.

After a taste of the postseason level competition in a match against Ball State University the week prior, Bushnell took on Purdue University, the No. 5 seed in the Division A playoff tournament. The Beacons, the No. 12 seed, fell in two games, ending their fall season in the opening round.

ROCKET LEAGUE
Match 6: Mount Aloysius College 4, Bushnell 2 (1-0, 1-2, 4-3, 0-2, 4-3, 2-1)

Bushnell Rocket League returned with their strongest starting lineup in program history. Cole Vamos, Isaac Wagner and Brec Feehan played on Wednesday of each week, competing in six best-of-seven matchups.

The Rocket League season, consisting of 183 teams, was broken into eight divisions based on rank. The Beacons were placed in Division A, the second-highest level of competition. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams from each conference advanced to the postseason.

Bushnell did not earn a postseason spot, finishing the fall slate with a 2-4 record. The Beacons fell behind in the standings after going the distance in the first two matches, falling in seven in both. They went on to win their next two to even their record but did not get the must-needed third win. Bushnell kept their losses close, finishing with an even win-loss differential as they were unable to put matches away.

FORTNITE
Week 1: 150 points (47th)
Week 2: 208 points (35th)
Week 3: 198 points (30th)
Week 4: 232 points (27th)

Fortnite competed in four zero build trios tournaments, taking place every other week. Points were earned based on placement and eliminations. At the end of each five-game tournament, the top team from each of the four lobbies advanced to the playoffs. The 17 remaining teams qualified based on points earned throughout the four tournaments.

Nathan Farris, Grayson Bolaños, Lauren Cazares and Nick McGowen are representing Bushnell in their first-ever trios competition. The Beacons climbed up the leaderboard each week, finishing the fourth tournament in 27th place to earn a spot in the postseason. They will play five games on Thursday, December 5 at 5:00 p.m., competing against the other 32 qualifying teams in the championship tournament.
