Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore.  –  Bushnell Esports picked up three wins in the second week of play, including a critical 2-1 victory in Valorant on Friday night. FIFA and Fortnite opened the fall season, while Rocket League gets going this week.   
 
SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE (SSBU)
Week 2: Dallas Baptist 2, Bushnell 0 (12-10, 12-2)
 
The Beacons are competing in their first official SSBU season, debuting with a roster of eight. The format of SSBU is 4v4 Crew Battles. Teams are assigned opponents of similar records each week and play a best-of-three series. 
 
Bushnell dropped its second-week match against Dallas Baptist University, falling in two. Alyssa Unruh, Aaron Gold, Emma Reposa, Nate Byers, Brandon Mitchell and Jacob Belz all saw time in the match. The Beacons have a bye this week.    
 
 
TEAMFIGHT TACTICS (TFT)
Week 1: 10 points (T-18th)
Week 2: 17 points (26th)
 
Zack Claunch was placed into the top division (Division A) of competition, representing Bushnell in its first appearance of TFT. Every Monday, Claunch will have two matches, competing in an eight-way free-for-all format.
 
Claunch placed sixth and fourth in week two, putting him in 26th (17 points) on the leaderboard in the 48-competitor field. There are five weeks to go in the regular season.

 
FC 25
Week 1: Dallas Baptist 2, Bushnell 1 (2-3, 2-1, 4-0)
 
Andrew Bennett is representing Bushnell in FC 25, previously known as FIFA. He will be assigned an opponent of similar record each week, playing a best-of-three series every Monday night. There are 141 teams participating in the fall.
 
Bennett fell in his first collegiate match to Dallas Baptist University, taking the opener before dropping the next two games. Up next is a match with the College of Staten Island on Monday, Oct. 7 at 5:00 p.m.
 
 
NBA 2K
Week 2: Bushnell 2, Keiser University – Pembroke Pines 0
 
Issac Bodley is representing Bushnell in NBA 2K. He will be assigned an opponent of similar record each week, playing a best-of-three series every Tuesday night. There are 87 colleges participating in the fall.
 
Bodley's week two match was not played, but Bushnell was awarded a victory in the contest and assigned a week three opponent. So as of now, Bodley is 1-1 on the year. Up next is a match against St. Clair College on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m.
 
 
VALORANT
Week 2: Bushnell 2, UNC Charlotte 1 (11-13, 13-11, 13-5)
 
Bushnell Valorant is back after a year off, featuring three new members to the starting lineup. Cole Vamos, Brett Olmstead, Nathan Farris, Zack Claunch and Connor DeVeny will play on Tuesday of each week, competing in a best-of-three matchup. The Valorant season, consisting of 232 colleges, is broken into nine divisions based on rank. The Beacons were placed in Division A, the second-highest level of competition.  
 
The Beacons earned their first win in comeback fashion, erasing a 10-4 deficit in game two before cruising to a decisive game three victory. Just two teams remain undefeated in the conference entering the third week of action. Up next, the Beacons take on Kean University (0-2) on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m.
 
 
MADDEN
Week 2: Bushnell 2, Bethany College 0
 
Caden Hoerauf is representing Bushnell in Madden. He will be assigned an opponent of similar record each week, playing a best-of-three series every Thursday night. There are 113 colleges participating in the fall.
 
Hoerauf's week-two opponent did not show up to Thursday's match, so he was awarded a forfeit victory, moving him to 1-1 on the season. His week three opponent has not been assigned.
 
 
FORTNITE
 
Fortnite competes in four zero build trios tournaments, taking place every other week. Points are earned based on placement and eliminations. At the end of each five-game tournament, the top team from each of the four lobbies will advance to the playoffs. The 17 remaining teams will qualify based on points earned throughout the four tournaments.
 
Nathan Farris, Grayson Bolaños and Nick McGowen represented Bushnell in their first-ever trios tournament. After a slow start, the Beacons finished with 150 points, putting them in 47th out of 112 teams on the leaderboard. Bushnell will need to find themselves within the top-33 teams at the end of the fourth tournament in order to qualify for the postseason.
