Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell University Esports picked up their first win of the year in Rocket League and qualified for the Collegiate Championship in Fortnite.

ROCKET LEAGUE
The Rocket League regular season consists of six rounds of conference play. All matches are best-of-five games. At the end of the Regular Season, the first-place roster in each conference will get an automatic bid into the Playoffs. The second and third place rosters from each conference will compete in a Last Chance Qualifier against second and third place rosters from other conferences.
 
Bushnell 3, West Texas A&M 0 (2-0, 1-0, 4-2)

Bushnell got its first win of the season on Monday, sweeping West Texas A&M University, 3-0. The Beacons finished with a 27-14 shots advantage, converted eight goals and allowed just two goals on the match. Cole Vamos, Lucas Fenton and Isaac Wagner made up the starting lineup. Cody Adams subbed in for the second and third game.

Up next, the Beacons take on undefeated Oklahoma Christian University on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

FORTNITE
Christian Velazquez and Ethan Slayden will compete in three qualifiers. During each qualifier, there will be two separate lobbies playing four custom matches. The top four teams from each lobby based on earned points (placement, eliminations) will receive direct bids to the Collegiate Championship. Over the span of three qualifiers, 24 teams will earn direct bids, while another 24 teams will advance based on collective points throughout the qualifiers.

Qualifier #1: 7th/42
Qualifier #2: T-2nd/45
 
Velazquez and Slayden posted 51 points (39 placement, 12 eliminations) in the first qualifier for a seventh-place finish.
 
The duo recorded 70 points (51 placement, 19 eliminations) in the second qualifier to tie for second, earning themselves a direct bid to the Collegiate Championship. The pair scored nearly half their points in the first match alone, tallying 31 points with a Victory Royale and six eliminations.
 
The third and final qualifier will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30 at noon.
