EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell continued the National Association of Collegiate Esports spring season with matches in Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Valorant and Fortnite.
FORTNITE
The NACE Starleague Collegiate Series featuring Fortnite (Split 1) takes place over the course of four tournaments, three Regional Opens followed by the Collegiate Championship. During each regional qualifier, rosters are invited into custom lobbies to play four matches. Teams earn points based on placement and eliminations. The top-three finishers from each West qualifier earn a direct bid to the Collegiate Championship on March 4.
Bushnell – 3rd
Christian Velazquez and
Ethan Slayden finished with 83 points (63 placement, 20 eliminations) in the second qualifier, finishing just one point short of first place. The University of Minnesota and Viterbo University tied for the top spot (84 points). Bushnell and Viterbo had already qualified for the collegiate championship in the first qualifier.
The Beacons got off to a strong start, earning Victory Royales in match one and two, while recording 16 eliminations to tally 66 of their 83 points. Bushnell was unable to secure a second straight qualifier win following an early exit in the third match and a fifth-place result in the fourth.
Bushnell will have one final tune-up before the Collegiate Championship as they compete in Qualifier #3 on Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon.
ROCKET LEAGUE
The Rocket League regular season consists of six rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. At the end of the Regular Season, three Rosters from each Division that have the best overall Records (W-L) will move on to the Playoffs.
Boise State 3, Bushnell 0 (1-5, 1-3, 1-3)
The Beacons took on one of the top teams in the entire league on Monday. Boise State won the West Conference in the fall before advancing all the way to the Round of 8 in the playoffs, while also participating in the 2022 Fall Collegiate Rocket League (CRL).
BSU cruised to a 5-1 victory in game one, scoring three goals in less than 20 seconds to get the match started. The Beacons scored once in each game, with all three goals coming from
Kyle Foss.
Up next, Bushnell takes on Oklahoma Christian University (2-0) on Monday, Feb. 27.
OVERWATCH 2
The Overwatch regular season consists of six rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. At the end of the Regular Season, six Rosters from each Division that have the best overall Records (W-L) will move on to the Playoffs.
Blinn College 3, Bushnell 0
Bushnell (0-2) was swept by Blinn College (2-0) in the second match of the spring season. The Beacons put up a fight on the Control map, before being unable to secure a point on the Hybrid or Escort rounds.

VALORANT
The Valorant regular season consists of six rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-three games. At the end of the Regular Season, six Rosters from each Division that have the best overall Records (W-L) will move on to the Playoffs.
Alaska Fairbanks 2, Bushnell 1 (11-13, 13-8, 3-13)
Bushnell dropped the first map and took the second to push the match to a decisive third map for the second week in a row. Any momentum the Beacons had entering map three was quickly stopped as Alaska Fairbanks cruised to a win on Haven to earn their second win of the season.
