Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell Esports continued play in the National Association of Collegiate Esports with a pair of matches in Rocket League and the third Fortnite qualifier.   

ROCKET LEAGUE
The Rocket League regular season consists of six rounds of conference play. All matches are best-of-five games. At the end of the Regular Season, the first-place roster in each conference will get an automatic bid into the Playoffs. The second and third place rosters from each conference will compete in a Last Chance Qualifier against second and third place rosters from other conferences.
 
Oklahoma Christian 3, Bushnell 1 (3-2, 5-4, 3-5, 6-2)
North Dakota State 3, Bushnell 1 (1-7, 4-3, 3-0, 1-0)
 
Bushnell fell in a pair of 3-1 losses to Oklahoma Christian University (4-0) and North Dakota State University (4-1). The Beacons took a game off both opponents, including a 7-1 opening game win over NDSU.

Lucas Fenton, Cole Vamos and Isaac Wagner made up the starting roster for the Beacons. The trio also competed in the Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) Fall Qualifier #2 over the weekend, going 2-2 with wins over CSU Monterey Bay and Missouri State.

The Beacons wrap up the NACE season on October 16th with a match against Colorado School of Mines.

FORTNITE
Christian Velazquez and Ethan Slayden competed in three qualifiers. During each qualifier, there were two separate lobbies that played four custom matches each. The top four teams from each lobby based on earned points (placement, eliminations) received direct bids to the Collegiate Championship. Over the span of three qualifiers, 24 teams earned direct bids, while another 24 teams advanced based on collective points throughout the qualifiers.

Qualifier #1: 7th/42
Qualifier #2: T-2nd/45
Qualifier #3: T-20th/42
 
The Collegiate Championship is scheduled for noon on Saturday. Velazquez and Slayden enter the tournament ranked ninth out of the 48 qualifying teams. The duo will play six custom matches, earning points based on placement and eliminations.

The Beacons have finished among the top-10 in every Fortnite collegiate championship over the last three seasons with Velazquez being a part of every tournament.
