Stubbs Earns Co-Medalist Honors at Season-Opening Tournament

COMPLETE RESULTS | GLENEDEN BEACH, Ore. – Senior Caden Stubbs opened the Bushnell golf season with a tie for first place at the Coastal Collegiate Classic, posting a 73-73-74—220 in the three-day tournament hosted by Corban University at Salishan Golf Links.

"Salishan is a very difficult golf course," said Stubbs. "I played very well in the windy conditions. I am proud of the rest of the team for the effort and battle and am very excited for Timberstone next week."

Stubbs earned co-medalist honors alongside Devon Caruso of No. 15 Lewis-Clark State. Caruso shot a tournament-best 69 on the day to move up the leaderboard, which was three strokes better than any round in the 38-player field. Caruso (77-74-69—220) and Stubbs were followed by LC's Jorgen Lie Viken (73-74-75—222). The trio finished well ahead of the remaining 35 golfers as the fourth-place finisher carded a 232.

Jackson Muramoto (74-85-77—236) improved in the final round, cutting eight strokes off his round two performance to wrap up the tournament in a three-way tie for seventh place.

LC State (909) won the 54-hole event after shooting a 295 in round three. The Warriors finished with a 45-stroke lead over second-place Oregon Tech (954). Multnomah (956) and Bushnell (956) finished in a tie for third, just two strokes back of second place. Southern Oregon (966) placed fifth followed by Corban (993) in sixth.

As a team, the Beacons had a rough outing in the third round, recording a final line of 304-322-330—956 in their season-opening tournament.

In their first collegiate tournament, Elliot Wallace (75-84-89—248) placed 21st, while Hayden Lazeo (87-80-90—257) finished in 27th.

Director of Golf Larry Watts said, "We kicked off the season with a third-place finish on a very demanding course. Our underclassman looked strong while Cade won the event. We are off to Idaho next week where we look forward to building on what we learned this week. We are excited about the year to come."

The Beacons travel to the College of Idaho Invitational next week for the first of three Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season tournaments.
