WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Bushnell University women's golf team opened the spring season at the Walla Walla Invitational, finishing in sixth place at the Wine Valley Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
 
Director of Golf 
Larry Watts said, "After round one, the team was pleased with their performance as the course certainly posed a challenge. Melody posted her lowest collegiate score in round two and all the lady's fought hard to post solid scores."
 
The Beacons finished with a two-round score of 363-365—728. Lewis-Clark State won the tournament (653), edging Corban (655) by just two strokes. Whitworth (674) placed third followed by Montana Tech (698) and Columbia Basin (704). Bushnell took sixth and Puget Sound (827) was seventh.
 
Deana Caruso of LC State earned medalist honors, shooting an 81-76—157. Caruso jumped four places in the final standings with the 76 in round two.  
 
For Bushnell, 
Analise Aubin (83-87—170) and 
Cassidy Krauss (82-88—170) tied for 13
th place. 
Fernanda Gardea (93-94—187) took 28
th for the Beacons, while 
Melody Garcia (105-96—201) dropped nine strokes off her first-round score to place 31
st.
 
"It was amazing to experience a style of golf course that we were not used to," said Watts. "With the foreign terrain that the golf course provided, the teams were visited by the beautiful western meadowlark who sang to each of us throughout the rounds."
 
Up next, Bushnell heads to Salem to compete at the Corban Invitational on April 11-12, a Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament.
