EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell Esports Fortnite team used another dominant performance on Sunday afternoon to claim their second straight regional open victory as they head into the Collegiate Championship on Saturday.
Overwatch returned to action on Monday night, coming away with a victory over the University of Southern California via forfeit. Rocket League played a close match with Loyola Marymount on Thursday evening and League of Legends dropped out of playoff contention after the tiebreaker results did not fall in their favor.
LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
League operates in a Swiss-style format, meaning opponents will be determined after each round of play with teams competing against another team with the same number of regular-season wins. Each match is a best-of-three games. At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams from each conference will move on to the conference playoffs. The Beacons compete in the West Conference, which consists of 56 teams.
Bushnell 14th Place
The Beacons were stuck waiting this week on the results of a 15-way tiebreaker for the remaining three postseason spots. The tiebreaker did not go in their favor as they finished 14
th out of 56 teams in the final standings. Despite not qualifying, it was a successful season for the League team as they finished with a 4-2 record.

OVERWATCH
The Overwatch regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. The top-three teams from each conference qualify for the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2nd vs 3rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1st vs Play-In Winner).

After a two-week pause, the Overwatch team was back in action on Monday evening with a couple roster changes.
Jacob Gates and
Cole Vamos made their season-debuts.
Aaron May,
Chase Dean,
Tyler Chase and
Brett Olmstead made up the remainder of the starting roster.
The Beacons fell in the actual game on Monday evening 3-1 (2-0, 5-4, 3-4, 2-0), however they were awarded with the win because the Trojans never checked into the match. Per the NACE rulebook, USC was given a forfeit, making it a victory on Bushnell's records.
Bushnell was also given a win in Monday's upcoming match against San Diego State University as the Aztecs were removed from competition due to reaching the maximum number of forfeits earlier in the season. This moves to Beacons to 4-4 in conference play.
The Beacons conclude the season with a match against the University of San Francisco on Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. The match date is subject to change as next week is spring break for Bushnell.
ROCKET LEAGUE
The Rocket League regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. There are 17 conferences separated by region, each consisting of 9 or 10 teams. The Beacons compete in the West 2 Conference. The top-three teams from each conference qualify for the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2
nd vs 3
rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1
st vs Play-In Winner).
Loyola Marymount 3, Bushnell 0 (3-1, 2-1, 2-0)
Bushnell fell to the Loyola Marymount (6-1) on Thursday but kept it a close match with the top-seeded team in the conference. The Beacons did not lose by more than two goals in any of the three games.
Preston Clark,
Lucas Fenton and
Benny Flores Jr. made up the starting lineup. Flores Jr. led the offense with two goals on the match. Clark finished with an assist and five saves, while Fenton added an assist and four saves.
Up next, Bushnell takes on Colorado School of Mines (3-4) on Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
FORTNITE
The Fortnite circuit consists of three Regional Opens for each region (East/West) followed by the Collegiate Championship for qualifying teams. The top four teams from each Regional Open, based on earned points, will receive direct bids to the Collegiate Championship on March 19. There will be an additional 24 bids assigned based on a team's collective points earned throughout all Regional Opens. In total, 48 teams will qualify for the Collegiate Championship, with 24 teams coming from the East Region and 24 teams coming from the West Region.
West Regional Open #3: First Place
Christian Velazquez and
David Sollid cruised to another first-place finish in the Fortnite West Open #3 on Sunday afternoon, grabbing Victory Royales in three of four matches. The duo had already earned an automatic bid to the Collegiate Championship after finishing second in the first regional but chose to compete in the remaining qualifiers to get experience against their collegiate competition.
The Beacons earned Victory Royales in the first three matches before taking third in the fourth match. Velazquez and Sollid finished with 112 points (91 placement points and 21 eliminations). Their 117 points were 34 points higher than the second-place finisher. Buena Vista (78), Minnesota Twin Cities (76) and Missouri State Western (75) rounded out the top-four.
The Collegiate Championship is scheduled for March 19th at 11 a.m.
