Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore. – The second week of the National Association of Collegiate Esports Starleague spring competition is in the books as Bushnell Esports competed in Rocket League, League of Legends and Overwatch.

The Beacons picked up their first win of the spring season in League of Legends on Tuesday evening, a 2-0 victory over the University of Manitoba.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
League operates in a Swiss-style format, meaning opponents will be determined after each round of play with teams competing against another team with the same number of regular-season wins. Each match is a best-of-three games. At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams from each conference will move on to the conference playoffs. The Beacons compete in the West Conference, which consists of 56 teams.

Bushnell 2, University of Manitoba 0
After falling to Boise State University in their first-round matchup, the Beacons (1-1) bounced back with a win over the University of Manitoba on Tuesday night. Bushnell kept with its starting lineup of Chad "RUBŸ" Vernon, Justin "Malstixy" Ault, Colton "sac de lait" Osten-Milbert, Drew "Zubdew" Lindley, and Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase.

Shoutcaster and teammate Kenyon "Keny116" Webster-Lorentzen said, "An absolutely fantastic second map for Bushnell. They found their groove, found the perfect balance between playing the late game well, winning the early game, and being aggressive. You can't ask for much more than that."

Ault finished with 18 eliminations in the second game, while Vernon added 10. Chase recorded 14 assists.   

The Beacons will look to keep it going against the University of Wyoming (1-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

ROCKET LEAGUE
The Rocket League regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. There are 17 conferences separated by region, each consisting of 9 or 10 teams. The Beacons compete in the West 2 Conference. The top-three teams from each conference qualify for the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2nd vs 3rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1st vs Play-In Winner).

Keyano College 3, Bushnell 0 (4-1, 3-0, 6-3)
Bushnell used the starting trio of Preston "PrestoMagic" Clark, Benny "Bemohz" Flores Jr. and Lucas Fenton on Monday evening. Clark led the Beacons with three goals and four saves on the match. Flores Jr. added three saves and a pair of assists, while Fenton recorded a goal and four saves.  

The Beacons were outshot 8-1 in the opening game, getting on the scoreboard first before four unanswered goals from Keyano College. Bushnell was shut out in the second game as the Huskies allowed just two shots and forced the Beacons into four saves. The Beacons were down 3-2 with just under two minutes to go in the third game before the Huskies pulled away with a pair of goals within the next 30 seconds.

Up next, the Beacons take on Washington State University on Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

OVERWATCH
The Overwatch regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. The top-three teams from each conference qualify for the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2nd vs 3rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1st vs Play-In Winner).

UC Berkeley 3, Bushnell 0 (2-0, 1-0, 3-2)
Bushnell (0-2) was swept by the University of California, Berkely in its second-round match on Sunday. The starting lineup consists of Aaron "MLG" May, Chase "Pt Loser" Dean, Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase, Benny "Bemohz" Flores Jr., Brett "Unfazed" Olmstead and Darryl Tillo.

The Beacons fell 2-0 on Lijiang Tower, 1-0 on King's Row and 3-2 on Junkertown.

Up next, the Beacons take on the University of Providence (0-2) on Monday, Feb. 7 at 9 p.m.
