Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore. – The National Association of Collegiate Esports Starleague spring competition is underway. The Beacons are competing in Rocket League, League of Legends and Overwatch.

ROCKET LEAGUE
The Rocket League regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. There are 17 conferences separated by region, each consisting of 9 or 10 teams. The Beacons compete in the West 2 Conference. The top-three teams from each conference qualify for the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2nd vs 3rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1st vs Play-In Winner).

University of Alberta 3, Bushnell 0 (7-1, 4-1, 3-2)
Bushnell was unable to find roster consistency last season, making multiple changes to the starting lineup throughout the fall. This season, the Beacons open with a starting lineup of Preston "PrestoMagic" Clark, Benny "Bemohz" Flores Jr. and newcomer Lucas Fenton. The trio has had a couple weeks to practice with each other entering this first round match and will continue to build chemistry throughout the season.

The Beacons fell to the University of Alberta in three to open the spring season. Fenton led the offense with three goals in his first time out, while also picking up five saves. Clark stayed back on the defensive end, recording six saves on the match. Junior finished with a goal and three saves.

Up next, the Beacons take on Keyano College on Monday at 5 p.m.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
League operates in a Swiss-style format, meaning opponents will be determined after each round of play with teams competing against another team with the same number of regular-season wins. Each match is a best-of-three games. At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams from each conference will move on to the conference playoffs. The Beacons compete in the West Conference, which consists of 56 teams.

Boise State 2, Bushnell 0
Bushnell enters the spring season with the same starting lineup as in the fall, where they finished with a 3-3 record. After opening the fall schedule with a win, the Beacons had a rough streak in the middle of the slate before winning consecutive matches to end the season. The Beacon starters are Chad "RUBŸ" Vernon, Justin "Malstixy" Ault, Colton "sac de lait" Osten-Milbert, Drew "Zubdew" Lindley, and Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase.

The Beacons fell to Boise State to open the spring season but look to bounce back next week against the University of Manitoba (0-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

OVERWATCH
The Overwatch regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. The top-three teams from each conference qualify for the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2nd vs 3rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1st vs Play-In Winner).

Loyola Marymount 3, Bushnell 1 (2-0, 3-2, 1-3, 2-1)
Bushnell (0-1) opens the spring season with a slight shift in the roster as Chase "Pt Loser" Dean returns to the lineup after shoutcasting for the Beacons last semester. The rest of the roster stays intact as Aaron "MLG" May, Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase, Benny "Bemohz" Flores Jr., Brett "Unfazed" Olmstead and Darryl Tillo make up the remaining five spots. With the addition of Dean, Olmstead moves to Support.

The Beacons opened the game with losses on Lijiang Tower and King's Row before holding off the Lions (1-0) on Junkertown to send the match to a fourth round. LMU took map four, Hanamura, to hand Bushnell the loss in the spring opener.

Up next, the Beacons take on UC Berkeley on Sunday at 6 p.m.
