EUGENE, Ore. -- Bushnell Esports got off to a great start to the 2021-22 Overwatch season, grabbing a convincing 3-0 victory in the season-opener against Lubbock Christian on Tuesday night.
Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase led a new Overwatch squad that showed a lot of team chemistry in the shutout. With just two returners on the Overwatch roster, the newcomers had to show up and they did just that in what was the first collegiate match for many of them.

The best-of-five match opened with the Control map, Lijiang Tower. Bushnell got out to a 1-0 lead after a quick victory, taking the first two points to secure the early advantage.
The Beacons had another decisive victory on the second map, Numbani, with a dominant performance on the Hybrid map to push their lead to 2-0. Bushnell easily defended the capture point before gaining the needed capture progress in less than a minute.
The Beacons continued this momentum into the third map, Route 66, holding off LCU from reaching even the first checkpoint. The team secured the shutout after advancing the payload further than LCU's 31.38m.
Chase "PT Loser" Dean and Kenyon "Keny116" Webster-Lorentzen shoutcasted the match, which included a pre-game and post-game show. The pair interviewed
Tyler Chase after the win, who was impressed with the play of the newcomers.
"Darryl, Landon and Aaron came in with a master's rating and they are performing like that. That's exactly what the team needed," said Chase. "Brett showed up and hit two Play of the Games. He is playing up really well."
Chase earned Player of the Game honors. "That was a really good showing and we played even better in this match than we did in our scrimmage on Friday," he said. "Let's just keep doing what we are doing."
The Bushnell Overwatch team will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 13 to take on Colorado College at 7 p.m.
