EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell Esports had three teams in action this week in 2021-22 NACE Starleague competition, which included season-debuts for the Valorant and League of Legends squads.

The League of Legends team, consisting of Chad "RÚBY" Vernon, Justin "Malstixy" Ault, Colton "Sac de Lait" Osten-Milbert, Drew "Zubdew" Lindley and Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase, won their season-opening match 2-1 over Colorado State University on Tuesday.

The Rocket League squad dropped to 0-3 on the season after falling to undefeated Irvine Valley College on Monday. The Beacons will look to rebound on Monday (Sept. 27) as they take on Colorado College at 7 p.m.

The Valorant team fell in the Round of 64 on Sunday to the University of California – Gold. The Beacons came in as the No. 49 seed in the tournament, competing against the No. 16 seed.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS

League operates in a Swiss-style format, meaning opponents will be determined after each round of play with teams competing against another team with the same number of regular-season wins. Each match is a best-of-three games. At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams from each conference will move on to the conference playoffs.

Bushnell 2, Colorado State 1 (24-3, 16-29, 23-5)
Osten-Milbert had a great series from start to finish, earning him Player of the Match in the season-opener for the Beacons. The Beacons dropped the second game but were in control during the other two contests. The team will be back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. to take on the University of California, Irvine.

ROCKET LEAGUE

Irvine Valley College 3, Bushnell 0 (6-0, 5-0, 3-0)
Bushnell was shut out by IVC as the Beacons were outscored 14-0 on Monday evening. Preston "PrestoMagic" Clark led the Beacons with seven shots and five saves on the match.

The Beacons will look ahead to their fourth-round match against Colorado College (2-1) on Monday (Sept. 27).

VALORANT

Valorant competition is taking on a different format this season due to restrictions on collegiate competition from the developer. Competition must be within four weeks in length. The tournament format begins with the single-elimination East/West Open Qualifier 1 in which 64 teams from each division are competing. This qualifier will conclude on Thursday (Sept. 23) with the top-four teams from each region advancing to the Regional Final on October 2-3. Teams that do not advance will have another opportunity in the East/West Opener Qualifier 2, which begins on September 26.

Cal Gold 2, Bushnell 0 (13-5, 13-11)
Bushnell fell in the opening round of the West Open Qualifier 1 on Sunday. Benny "Bemohz" Flores Jr. led the team with 41 eliminations through two rounds. After a 13-5 loss in the first game, the Beacons rebounded to make it a close second round. The Beacons were unable to send the match to a decisive third game, but will have another chance on Sunday, Sept. 26 in the West Open Qualifier 2.

Coming Up: Bushnell Esports will compete in the Valorant East/West Open Qualifier 2 which begins on Sunday, Sept. 26 and continues through Thursday, Sept. 30. Overwatch and Rocket League matches are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 27. League of Legends enters its second-round match on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
