Rocket League Falls to Hawaii in Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell Esports Rocket League team dropped their season-opening match against the University of Hawaii 3-0 on Saturday evening.

The roster for the opener consisted of Preston "PrestoMagic" Clark, Dakota "DakKura" Kurahara and Benny "Bemohz" Flores Jr.

The Beacons opened the match with a 3-2 loss in overtime. Flores Jr., who is on the Valorant team, stepped in as a replacement this evening and posted his first goal halfway through the opening match, scoring on a misplay by Hawaii on the kickoff. Hawaii, also known as "UHM Tsunami", ended the first game 10 seconds into overtime to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Bushnell struggled to get its offense going in the second game as the Beacons were outshot 8-2. UHM took the game 4-1.

Clark scored twice in the opening minute of the must-win third game, but UHM responded with two goals of its own before halfway point. The Tsunami scored the game-winner with under a minute to go before adding their fourth unanswered goal to secure the sweep.

Clark, the team captain, shared his takeaway on the match. He said, "It definitely gave us some things we want to work on and implement that you'll hopefully be seeing in our next game."

Rocket League is back in action in just two days as the Beacons take on York College (Neb.) on Monday at 7 p.m.
