EUGENE, Ore. – The League of Legends season has come to an end for Beacon Esports, but the ending was a poetic finish to their 3-3 season. The team earned three more out-right victories than in 2020, when their only two wins came via forfeits.
Â
The final stretch of the season started with a defeat at the hands of the University of Colorado, 0-2. The Buffalo fell behind early in the first game, but recovered quickly and held a steady lead throughout game two.
Â
The following week the team took on another Pac-12 foe in Washington State and this time lost 2-1. The Beacons started off with a close but controlled win in game one, but the Cougars rallied back to take games two and three.
Â
The Beacons drew friendly-rival Oregon Tech for the season finale and the Owls jumped to a decisive game-one win, with the season looking to end on a three-game losing streak. Bushnell was having none of that, however.
Chad Vernon said, "Game one was tough and not much went our way, but we were able to rally back for dominant game two and game three victories."
Â
Miles Adkisson, Director of Esports, is pleased with the progress the team made this season. "Not only have we improved dramatically from last year, we have also seen tremendous improvements as a team throughout the year. Our lower rank players made me the most proud. They really stepped it up and pulled their weight when going against players with a much higher rank. A big shout out goes to
Tyler Chase and
Andrew Lindley for their hard work this season."
Â
One of the biggest changes for the team was a late addition as
Colton Osten-Milbert (pictured) enrolled for the spring semester. Adkisson said, "Colton immediately raised the bar for us. He is a good guy and a vocal leader in the arena. We are excited to have him in our program."
Â
Moving forward, the team has the Teemo Cup to compete in, and then eyes are on the College League of Legends season next year. "I am incredibly optimistic about our team moving forward," said Adkisson, "but the work is not done. We want to make some noise in the Teemo Cup to end the year on a high note. All the players now know that the expectation is to make the CLoL tournament next year and it is important that each of our players continue to grind in the off season and work to improve their individual ranks."
Â
Beacon Esports is currently in the throes of their inaugural Fortnite season and a spring Rocket League trek is also set to begin soon.
