Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell Esports continued conference play in the 2021-22 National Association of Collegiate Esports Starleague competition with matches in Overwatch and League of Legends.

The Bushnell Overwatch team opened the week with a competitive match against second-place UC Davis, falling to the Aggies after taking the series to five games on Monday night. The League of Legends squad fell to Cal Poly Pomona (2-2) on Tuesday night.

OVERWATCH
The Overwatch regular season consists of nine rounds of conference play. All matches are a best-of-five games. The top-three teams from each conference will move on to the postseason which begins with a Conference Play-In (2nd vs 3rd) followed by the Conference Championship (1st vs Play-In Winner).

UC Davis 3, Bushnell 2 (2-0, 1-3, 3-4, 3-2, 1-2)

Bushnell (2-4) opened the contest by securing the first two points of the best-of-three map one. UC Davis (5-1) won the next two, but the Beacons tied the series on the assault map to send the match to the fifth and final game. The teams split the first two rounds of the game five control map before UC Davis secured the winning point.

The series with UC Davis was the first to go to five for the Beacons this season. Bushnell sits in a competitive conference, but nearly every match has been within reach for the young Beacon squad.

The Beacons have two matches to go in conference play but with two wins, they are out of contention for a top-three spot. They return to action on October 25 at 7 p.m. against San Diego State (3-3) following their bye week. The date and time are subject to change.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS
League operates in a Swiss-style format, meaning opponents will be determined after each round of play with teams competing against another team with the same number of regular-season wins. Each match is a best-of-three games. At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams from each conference will move on to the conference playoffs.

Cal Poly Pomona 2, Bushnell 0 (20-33, 16-32)

Bushnell (1-3) opened the League of Legends season with a win over Colorado State (Sept. 21) before falling to UC Irvine (Sept. 28) and Northern Arizona University (Oct. 5). The Beacons then fell to Cal Poly Pomona (Red) on Tuesday night.

The Beacons next opponent is Pueo Gaming out of the University of Hawaii. The match takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
