Beacon Esports Week in Review

EUGENE, Ore. – It was a strong week for the Beacons across all three games as the teams combined for a 4-1 record. On Tuesday, Rocket League picked up a sweep while Valorant remained undefeated with a sweep on Wednesday.

ROCKET LEAGUE

The Beacons improved to 4-2 behind the strength of their first double-header sweep, taking down Dakota Wesleyan University and the Boise State University "B" Team.

Bushnell opened with a 3-0 (5-0, 7-2, 7-0) win over Dakota Wesleyan. The Beacons were able to display their strong passing and ability to perform as a team. Preston "PrestoMagic" Clark dominated as he scored 10 of the team's 19 goals, adding two assists and two saves. Cole "Crow" Vamos added six goals and five assists while Dakota "DakKura" Kurahara scored three goals and also had five assists.

The Beacons dominated in the opening win while the night cap proved to be anything but easy as the team battled back from a two-game deficit to win the match 3-2 (1-3, 0-1, 2-1, 2-0, 5-0).  After putting up just one goal over the first two games, the Beacons managed to come back and do what is known in Rocket League as the reverse sweep, claiming the final three games to win the series. Crow and PrestoMagic scored four goals and two assists each but Crow earned POG honors, adding eight saves as the team roared back.

Next up for the RL squad will be a Wednesday double-header featuring their first official clash with the Bushnell JV team, followed by a showdown with the University of Montana Silver team.

OVERWATCH

Bushnell Overwatch split their two matches of the week, moving to 3-2 on the season.

The Beacons started the week on a high note, taking down the Jamestown University JV squad 3-0. With Bushnell playing very aggressive, the Jimmies were unable to keep up with the tempo. Akito "Okage" Ryuzaki had a dominant performance on Dorado with his Widowmaker gameplay. Additionally, on King's Row, he was able to clutch out two important fights with his ultimate, which led to the Beacons full holding them on defense.

The second match of the week did not go as well with Bushnell falling to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 3-0. Stout proved to be a very disciplined team that seemed to know how to deal with the Beacons at every turn. While Bushnell was swept, each match was close. Tyler "ShockMaster" Chase was named Player of the Game for the Beacons. Team Shoutcaster Chase Dean said, "Overall we were pleased with our team's performance and this series should prove very educational as we were able to pin-point some mistakes and we can clean some things up moving forward."

Next week will again prove to be a good test for the Beacons as they take on the Boise State University "B" team on Monday and Colorado College on Thursday.

VALORANT

Bushnell's newest team continues to be it's most successful after a strong win against Dakota Wesleyan University on Wednesday to stay undefeated. The Beacons never surrendered a point in the 13-0, 13-0 sweep. DakKura was named the Player of the Game for the Beacons.

The 2-0 Beacons will be back in action next Wednesday, taking on Dickinson State.
