McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The NCU men's track & field team kicked off their outdoor track & field season on Saturday at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker.
Â
Competing one week prior to the official NAIA start date for the outdoor season, no conference or national standards could be attained, but the team got their feet wet for the upcoming season nonetheless.
Â
Leading the way was sophomore
Matt Jones who broke a 400m record that had stood since 2014. His time of 50.44 was good for fourth-place and gave him his third school record. Jones also currently holds the 100m and 200m school marks. Â
Â
Two others hit "would-be" conference qualifying times. Freshman
Corban Phillips ran a 32:51.89 in the 10k while junior
Michael Andrews cleared 3.95 meters in the Pole Vault, the fourth best vault in school history.
