SALEM, Ore.  – After a four-month layoff, the NCU golf teams returned to action this weekend, easing back into action with the Capitol City Match Play hosted by Corban University at Creekside Golf Course.

With only standard stroke play events counting toward season results, standings, and rankings, this Match play event provides a great "scrimmage" opportunity for the Beacons to get their competitive juices flowing once again.

On the men's side the Beacons claimed third place in the four-team event. They opened up on Saturday going 1-2 in nine-hole matches against each opponent. After losses to Warner Pacific (3-2) and Corban (5-0), NCU capped off the afternoon with a 5-0 victory over Lewis & Clark.

The Beacons faced off with the LC Pioneers once again on Sunday, again winning 5-0 to claim third.

The Beacon women also competed, seeing the debut for former NCU volleyball player
Keri Schwarz, along with senior women's basketball player
Kristen Parr. The ladies took fourth place in the event.

Northwest Christian opened with 9-hole round-robin play, falling to University of Victory, 3.5-1.5, Lewis & Clark 4-1, and Corban 3-2. The Warriors defeated NCU 3-2 again on Sunday in the 18-hole third-place match.

The Beacons will return to action next week, traveling to Eagle Point for the Oregon Tech Invitational.
