Beacons Take Third at OIT Border Battle

EAGLE POINT, Ore.– Sophomore Levi Dean (pictured) set the tone with a sixth-place finish, leading the Northwest Christian University men's golf team to third-place at the Oregon Tech Border Battle at Eagle Point Golf Club over the weekend.

Dean held the tournament lead after earning the only par-or-better round during Saturday's first circuit and the Beacons had jumped to a six-shot lead on both Lewis-Clark State and Warner Pacific. NCU finished the tournament 13 shots behind co-winners L-C State and Oregon Tech. The Beacons were also 11 shots better than fourth-place Warner Pacific.

Dean followed his opening-round 72 with a 78 and 75, finishing tied for sixth at 225, nine strokes over par. Josh Goins followed in eighth place (75-75-76—226) and Paul Smoot claimed tenth (75-76-76—227).

Also competing for the Beacons were Austin Dame (20th, 77-79-81—237), Jack Singleton (24th, 82-83-80—245) and Tristan Ivie (30th, 80-88-91—259).

The Beacons will be back in action on April third with the Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule resumes for the first time since October at the Multnomah Invitational.
