Beacons Fall to Owls in Five

Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball came out on the losing end of a five-set battle with the Owls of OIT on Friday night, 17-25, 27-29, 25-20, 25-19, 8-15.
 
Oregon Tech (10-14, 8-11 CCC) out-hit the Beacons .185 to .142 on the night. NCU held the edge in kills, 60-59, but their 33 attack errors to 26 by the Owls proved to be the difference in the match.
 
OIT won set one easily, never relinquishing the lead once they scored their first point. Owl hitter Chase Bowman got off to a hot start with six of her game-high 19 kills in the first.
 
The second, on the other hand, was nothing but a sure thing. There were eight tie scores and four lead-changes in the set, with the Beacons up by four at their 22nd point. After the Owls scored four-in-a-row, the two teams synced scores for the next four. The home side ended the set on a three-point run, battling back from a 27-26 NCU lead to seal the game.
 
NCU excelled in the third, hitting at a .265 clip, their best on the night. The fourth was tightly-contested until NCU rattled-off three separate three-point runs, including the final three to force a fifth set. OIT got out to an early 7-3 lead in the final contest and were able to hold of the Beacons by a final of 15-8, sealing their 10th victory on the year.
 
Cheyanne Laber had a nice performance for the Owls, downing 16 kills while notching five digs. Faryn Chase had the third-highest kill total of the night with 14 on .345 hitting. Jaime Toedtemeier had a double-double for Oregon Tech, amassing 42 assists to go along with 11 digs. Four other Owls topped double-digits in the dig column, with Paige Bruce scooping a team-best 21.
 
On the opposing side, Maci Beierle had a big night for NCU (15-9, 10-9). The senior setter had a game-high 46 assists in the match, while also gaining ten digs. Claire Salness also had a double-double for the Beacons with a team-high 13 kills and 13 digs. Megan Van Marter played big on both sides of the net, earning 11 kills while also blocking eight OIT swings. Kasey Campbell and Keri Schwarz were the other Beacons reaching double-digit kills with 11 and ten respectively. Additionally, libero Haley Damian had a team-high 21 digs, with teammate Kayla Olson adding on 12.
 
The Beacons play the final regular season match of the 2017 campaign on Saturday when the travel to Ashland to face-off with Southern Oregon University at 5 p.m.
