PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomores
Christian Hackney and
Garrett Kraal made new dents in the NCU record book this weekend as the Beacons competed at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open. In addition, three more CCC qualifications standards were met.
Â
Hackney (pictured above) had his best javelin throw of the season on Friday night, producing a toss of 54.63 meters to take sixth place (fourth among collegiate throwers). His mark was just 0.35 meters short of the NAIA "B" Standard.
Â

Kraal (pictured, left) on the other hand hit the "B" standard in the 5000m, becoming the first NCU athlete ever to accomplish the feat. His time of 14:55.48 broke his own school record and was just ten seconds shy of an automatic qualification to nationals.
Â
A new school record was also set in the 4x100m relay as
Michael Andrews,
Tanner Keuter,
Josh Chesnut and
Micah Jury broke the record set two weeks ago by 2.24 seconds.
Â
The qualification list for CCC grew by three over the weekend as
Chris Zirkle qualified in the 5000m, Jury added the 110m Hurdles to his 400m Hurdles standard, and
Victor Irechukwu cleared the CCC high jump mark by 0.02 meters.
