Falk Medal Leads NCU to Second Place

SALEM, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's golf team climbed into second place on Tuesday to close out the Corban University Invitational at Creekside Golf Course. Senior Tyler Falk took home individual medalist honors, winning the event by ten strokes.

Trailing Simpson University by three strokes after day one, NCU rallied to shoot their best round of the tournament in the third round, surpassing the Red Hawks for second place with a final score of 924. Concordia University won the event by 21 strokes, finishing at 903. Simpson was third at 932, followed closely in fourth place by Corban University (935). Warner Pacific (945), The College of Idaho (1010) and Oregon Tech (1012) rounded out the field.

Falk opened the tournament with a two-under 70 in the first round and never looked back, owning a six-stroke lead on the field after the first day. He spread the gap to ten strokes, finishing at 214 for the fifth-lowest tournament score in school history. It was the second medal honor of the year for Falk, and the fifth of his career, putting him one shy of the NCU record of 6, held by Justin Ahrens.

Creekside Golf Course was the sight of the NAIA National Championship last season, an event that saw just four out of 156 players finish under par. Falk was two-under this week.

Concordia's Jesse Heinly took second place, shooting a 76-75-73=224. Heinly and Falk are now tied atop the Player of the Year standings for the CCC with a 72.22 stroke average in conference play. Six rounds remain in the Cascade Collegiate Conference season.

Freshman James Demopoulos took 12th place for the Beacons, shooting a 233 (80-76-77) while Cody Gardner was six shots behind him in 20th place (84-78-77=239). Rounding out the NCU roster were Sam Mar (25th, 243) and Calvin Green (26th, 244).

Northwest Christian University returns to action on Monday, April 7 when they play host to the next Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season tournament at their home course at Springfield Country Club. Falk is the reigning individual champion from the 2012-2013 event.
