EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team recovered quickly from a difficult loss on Friday night, knocking off Oregon Tech on the road on Saturday evening, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22. The Beacons have taking four straight matches off the Owls and win in Klamath Falls for just the second time.
The Beacons (15-7, 8-5 CCC) were firing on all cylinders on Saturday, hitting at a .288 clip while holding the Owls to just .089 hitting. NCU out-blocked OIT 9-4 and had 48 digs, 47 kills and three service aces. Chandler Gabrio (pictured) posted a match-high 15 kills along with three blocks, hitting .423. The dominance in the middle wasn't limited to Gabrio, however, as Chelsea McGowan hit .526 with 11 kills up against one attack error.
Taylor Richardson added nine kills and Maren Mansfield finished with seven. Janel Fetters led all players with four blocks. Cori Wallace ran the offense effectively with 39 assists and reigning CCC Defensive Player of the Week Dana McGowan posted 21 digs.
Oregon Tech (12-14, 5-7) was led by Kelsey Sampson with eight kills and Madisen Garlie with six. Victoria Porter led the team with 14 assists while Marie Baumann posted 11 digs.
On Friday the Beacons lost a crucial contest to Southern Oregon University, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13. NCU was trying to complete the season sweep of the Raiders (12-7, 9-3) in hopes of keeping pace with SOU for fourth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Mansfield was a bright spot for the Beacons hitting .292 with eight kills and eight digs. Fetters made it official in the match, breaking her tie atop the NCU career kill record list with six more kills. She now has 879 kills during her illustrious career.
NCU will return to action next Friday night, traveling to Salem to face Corban University (5-18, 2-11) at 7:00 pm.
