KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech's Meghan Drost had a hat-trick as The Lady Owls downed Northwest Christian University 4-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field. Oregon Tech picked up its first win of the season and improved to 1-2. The Beacons fall to 0-5 on the season with the loss.
Head Coach
Brett Bentley said, “We created some good scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes, but we just weren't able to convert and OIT is the type of team that if you don't get to them early, they'll make you pay and they did that tonight.”
Drost got Oregon Tech on the board in the 16th minute as she took a Molly Brabham pass right in front of the goal and chipped in over the outreached hands of
Ali Foster to give Tech the early 1-0 lead.
The two teams would battle back and forth the rest of the half with no one else able to find the back of the net as OIT took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Just 3 minutes into the second half Drost set up Hayley Smith with a perfect pass across the middle, Smith then dribbled past two defenders and scored in the upper right of the goal to put the home team up 2-0.
Drost was at it again just nine minutes later as she chipped a shot over the keeper for her second goal of the day to put Tech up 3-0, Rebekah Nisbet and Veronica Steward were credited with a double assist on the play.
Drost picked up the hat-trick in the 81st minute taking a Jennifer Ramirez pass and scoring from 26 feet out giving the Lady Owls the 4-0 shut-out win.
Oregon Tech Freshman Goalie Rebekah Matteri faced 12 shots and had 5 saves in picking up her first collegiate win a 4-0 shut-out.
Foster kept the Beacons close making several spectacular saves in the loss. For the game Foster faced a total of 28 shots, 12 on goal and collected eight saves. The Beacons got four shot attempts apiece from seniors
