Beacons Suffer First Defeat at Hands of Bearcats

SALEM, Ore.  – The Bushnell women's soccer team was handed their first loss of the season on Sunday evening, falling to Willamette University in a non-conference clash, 3-1.

After a scoreless first half, Bushnell was able to get on the board first when Anela Leslie (pictured) posted an unassisted goal just three minutes into the second period.

The Bearcats responded quickly however, as less than a minute later WU's Haleigh Seeling and Samantha Rodriguez connected for the first of three times.

The equalizer was scored by Seeling off a dish from Rodriguez in the 49th minute. The game winner came off the foot of Rodriguez from a Seeling pass in the 55th, and the same combo went on to add the insurance goal in the 68th.

Willamette held a slim 10-7 lead in shot attempts, and took eight shots-on-goal as Gabriella Montes made five saves.

The Beacons took all seven of their shot attempts in the second half.

UP NEXT: Bushnell returns to Eugene this week, playing the first of five consecutive games at home on Tuesday night, taking on Linfield University at 7:00 pm.
