ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Northwest Christian University women's soccer team lost their second game of the season on Friday 3-0, but made improvements against William Jessup as the preseason rolls on.
NCU head coach
Brett Bentley said, “Overall, we played a good game and it was night-and-day from our last contest against Simpson. Unfortunately, we made three very clear individual errors that led directly to scores. If we played smarter it would have been a closer outcome.”
The Warriors, a team receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll and the pre-season favorites to win the California Pacific Conference championship, outshot the Beacons 11-4 and held NCU without a shot over the first half as they established a 2-0 lead.
WJU (1-1) first got on the board in the 39th minute off a goal from Jacque Cassell. Cassell went on to punch in the first insurance score with just over three minutes remaining in the opening period. William Jessup tacked on one more in the 70th minute when Dallas Butterfield found the back of the net.
“We controlled the tempo and the flow for most of the game,” said Bentley. “That ability to dictate play is something we will continue to build upon moving forward.”
The Beacons return to action next Friday, traveling to Forest Grove to face Pacific University at 7:00 pm.
