ANGWIN, Calif. – The Northwest Christian University women's volleyball team improved to 3-0 on Thursday morning after sweeping Pacific Union College, 25-10, 25-23, 25-18.
The Beacons were firing on all cylinders, hitting .384 as a team, collecting seven blocks and holding the Pioneers to just a .197 attack percentage.
Head Coach Mike Gaffaney said, “We played extremely well this morning. We were strong on both sides of the ball. It was great to get to 3-0 and to pick up our first sweep of the season.
NCU was led by
Maren Mansfield, who collected 15 kills and hit a scorching .600, adding seven digs.
Cori Wallace (pictured) was also efficient as a hitter at .556 getting six kills and just one attack error. The sophomore setter added a game-high 27 assists along with two blocks.
Danielle Nance chipped in seven kills and a pair of blocks and
Janel Fetters threw down six kills and five digs.
Chelsea McGowan led all players with four block assists in the match.
Pacific Union (0-1) was led by Casey Miller with eight kills. Melissa Yong had 12 digs while Brita Widmer collected three blocks and five kills, hitting .500.
Northwest Christian University returns to action at 12:00 this morning with their toughest challenge of the young season, facing No. 6 Azusa Pacific University.
