EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Libero Dana Clark had a monster night, setting a new school benchmark for digs, and the Northwest Christian University volleyball team took down Oregon Tech on Saturday, 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21. NCU closes out the first half of the CCC schedule in sixth place.
The Beacons improve to 9-8 overall, 3-5 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference while Oregon Tech drops to 9-7, 3-6 in the CCC. NCU has now defeated the Owls in two straight matches, after losing the first eight contests between the schools.
For Clark, it was a banner match as she posted 36 digs, averaging nine per set and topping NCU's single-match record of 35. The sophomore added eight assists and a pair of service aces in the match as well. Offensively, the Beacons hit .140 and defensively, NCU held the Owls to .049 hitting. The Beacons out-blocked OIT 9-7.
Janel Fetters led the way with five blocks, followed by four apiece from middle blockers
Chelsea McGowan and
Danielle Nance.
Nance finished the match hitting .400, collecting 15 kills, but it was outside hitter
Emily O'Neal that led the offensive attack with a match and season-high 16 kills.
Cori Wallace posted a double-double with 32 assists and 15 digs.
Oregon Tech was led by Joey Parnell, putting down 14 kills while posting 17 digs and three blocks. Jen Saltenberger hit a team-high .158 with seven kills, adding three blocks and Kai Evans-Bautista led the team with five blocks.
Both setters posted double-doubles for the Owls. Sarah Svedin led the way with 24 assists and eleven digs. Kayleigh Whelchel followed with ten assists and twelve digs.
Northwest Christian will be back in action next Friday when they travel to face Eastern Oregon University at 7:00 pm. Oregon Tech will be in Portland next weekend, beginning against Warner Pacific College on Friday.
