NEWBERG, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team came back from a tough first set and fought a close battle on Saturday night, only to fall to George Fox University in straight sets, 25-13, 27-25, 25-20.
“It was a well played match by both teams,” said Head Coach Mike Gaffaney. “It was nice to see our girls play strong and compete. You never want a loss, and we probably should have gone four sets with them, but I was pleased with our efforts tonight.”
Cassie Bishop led the Beacons (3-9) with a match-high 12 kills.
Tessa Greatwood followed with five kills and
Emily Miller recorded four kills along with 11 digs and two service aces.
Mercedes Leclaire rounded out a strong week on defense with 13 more digs, bringing her total for the week to 55, averaging 5.5 per set.
George Fox (6-3) was led by Lyndsay Hovee who had 11 kills, hitting .333. Jenna Dohren added 11 digs and Eliza Pledger had five blocks, including three solo efforts. GFU out-blocked the Beacons 9-3 on the night.
NCU will be back in action on Tuesday night as they play host to Simpson University at 5:00 pm.
