TOURNAMENT LEADERBOARD
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - After an impressive rally in the second round, the Bushnell men's golf team sits in sixth-place at the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season opening tournament, the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational.
An opening round 302 had the Beacons playing catchup, but the squad responded in the afternoon circuit, shooting a one-under par 287 for the fourth-lowest single round in school history. Their two-round total of 589 has them sitting in sixth-place, three shots behind Simpson University and three shots ahead of Corban.
"Overall I was pretty happy with how we finished 36 holes at Running Y today," said Head Coach
Nathan Wiedenmann. "The golf course changes from morning conditions with quick greens, to midday when the sun and wind hit to dry our the course, to the evening when the greens became bumpy and slow from so much activity. We made some strategy changes as we started the second round, really focusing on our second shots and giving ourselves uphill looks and the guys really responded."
Leading the way for the Beacons was
Jacob Holmes who fired a 77-68--145 to tie for 14th-place. Coach Wiedenmann said, "Jacob is a tremendous competitor and really did some good things that second 18 holes."
Close behind Holmes was
Luke Fenner in 18th (74-72--146) while
Shawn Petty (76-73--149) and
Peyton Wiedenmann (76-73--149) matched each other stroke for stroke and sit in 27th.
Also golfing for the Beacons are
Trison Hedges (31st, 77-73--150) and
Lincoln Wiedenmann (54th, 76-82--158).
"Our athletes really remained positive, engaged, and purposeful today," added Coach Wiedemann. "It is my hoe that we can make a few more puts tomorrow and work our way back up the board."
The Oregon Tech Fall Invite will conclude with the third round on Tuesday.
